Ginger Leigh – From Artesia with love

This stuff brings me in a very good mood! I put this promo cd on without a clue what to expect and immediately it had me in its spell. I never heard of Ginger Leigh before, but he (?) seems to be very productive and already had good reviews in internet publications like Flux Europa, Achtung Baby and Heimdallr…

V/A – Knights of the Abyss

This legendary sampler already dates from 1995 but for some reason never made it to my collection. Only recently I obtained this compilation, I think this is a re-release, by the small label Abyss Records. Eleven bands are gathered here, with ‘war’ as the unifying theme on this album, if I’m not mistaken. The compilation starts with a French minimal neo-classical track by N.L…

Thurnemans – Punishment as reward

This was the first Thurnemans single, released in 1999, which sold out rather quickly. Just as on the ‘Wilhelm’ we are treated to two noisy, rhythmic industrial tracks. Nothing new on the sun, but very effective and energetic. Repetitive and noisy, with many high frequencies and extreme distorted vocals. Good stuff for the industrial dancefloors without doing any concessions…

V/A – L’Ame Electrique presents: Hau Ruck!/WKN

At the excellent Discomania store in Brussels I recently obtained the newest edition (November 2001) of L’Ame Electrique, an excellent Greek magazine. Although I suspect the magazine was named after an album by Die Form, the main musical focus is on neofolk and industrial music…

Institut – Great day to get even

There was a time when Cold Meat was mostly known for its atmospheric dark ambient. The last years though harsh industrial seems to be an equally important part of the label. Institut is probably the best industrial band I heard so far on Cold Meat. This is their first album, but the project exists already for almost a decade…

Brighter Death Now – Obsessis

Brighter Death Now, or short BDN, is the project of Roger Karmanik, boss of the Cold Meat label. This project is active for many many years now and has released quite a large oeuvre so far. The music is so very violent and brutal that it makes you wonder who would listen to it voluntarily…

Organisation Toth – Follow the red örder

An obscure 10″ released by the French label Athanor. Organisation Toth, named after a NS-organization, is also a French act, coming from Marseille. I don’t know much about them, only that they released a 10″; on Athanor before, called ‘The voice of terror’. The record states that Organisation Toth consists of T.ESTUD .O.siris with Frater .Th. feat. The Spirit Of E.V.OL…..

Thurnemans – Wilhelm

This duo was discovered by Lina Babydoll, so I’ve heard. This is the second Thurnemans single, released by Entartete Musik, ‘a releasing division of Der Deutsch Generalische Generalstab’. The label itself describes the music as ‘harsh high energy “backtobasic”-industrial’…

Victoria – Homo Rattus

This new project is a collaboration between Tomas Pettersson of Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio and Peter Pettersson of Sophia/Arcana. If you put these two Cold Meat masters together in the studio/on stage you must get something special! Well, at least they must have had a lot of fun, especially when you listen to the ‘rat’ track on this single…

Megaptera – Beyond the massive darkness

After ten years of making death industrial Megaptera decided to call it a day. The extremely dark ambient sound of this Swedish band has influenced many other acts. I saw the band live recently, which impressed me a lot…

Haus Arafna – Fur Immer

Haus Arafna, from the house of Galakthorrö, makes strange analog noise. The ‘band’ consists of Mr. Arafna (electronics, vocals, programming) and Mrs. Arafna (realism, vocals, structuring). The world of Haus Arafna is merciless, full of urban nightmares. Misantrophy and hate are the main themes…

Winterkälte – Progressive

When I first heard this 4-track maxi some years ago I was completely blown away. At that time Winterkälte wasn’t at the top of the rhythmic industrial scene yet, this was one of their first releases (from 1997) and it was also my first encounter with the Hands label. I bought it when I was impressed by the show of this German powernoise duo at the first Maschinenfest, I think it was in 1998…

Yrrwe Zsuzyrrwe – Xytrobuzyrrwe

Yrrwe Zsuzyrwwe is a new Dutch industrial/noise project. This 8 track cd-r is released by The Noise Department, an Industrial Noise Promotion Agency. Mainman behind both Yrrwe Zsuzyrrwe and The Noise Department is Marco V. Before YZ started he has been involved in other industrial projects like Legal Injury and Hydlide (now known under the name Ex IQ)…
