Hooverphonic

The most recent album of the Belgian formation dreampop/trip-hop Hooverphonic is called Sit down and listen with Hooverphonic. On this album older songs of the band, like Jackie Cane and 2 Wicky, are given a acoustic and classical treatment: less electronics, more strings and piano. Sitting and listening was precisely what you could do during the Hooverphonic concert in the Vredenburg theatre in Utrecht. And it was lovely. Melancholic ballads were alternated with rather theatrical songs, which reminded of nostalgic musicals. A few more energetic, rocking songs were played to keep the audience awake. Eight excellent musicians and a convincing frontwoman gave us a fine Tuesday night.
