Today I watched the cultural tv program R.A.M., which had an item about Robin Rimbaud’s project Scanner amongst others. I first encountered his work at the 1997 Impakt Festival in Utrecht, where he used intercepted phone calls and radiowaves in his soundscapes.
Scanner performed at the experimental Toon Festival in Haarlem last month. On a Saturday afternoon he played in a large department store, incorporating the sounds of the store and the shopping people in his ‘muzak’. It was priceless to see the reactions of the stupified consumers, who had no idea what was going on.
