Svartsinn - Traces Of Nothingness
in ambient, Reviews
Traces Of Nothingness is the third album of Svartsinn aka Jan Roger Pettersen. It comes in a very black digipack, with the grey print barely readable. And so does the ambient music come across: dark and dense, hard to permate.
Most of the music consists of deep drones, endless bleak soundscapes and samples of industrial sounds and distant human voices. At times melodic, almost ethereal keyboard elements enter the frame, which usually give the compositions a more interesting dimension, like on ‘Lost in reveries’.
This type of dark ambient music is hard to describe, it’s usually more a matter if it’s impressive or convincing enough. Well, in general it is. Though I have heard more ’special’ releases on Cyclic Law, this new album by Svartsinn is haunting and desolate enough to be effective.
If you don’t have this album already; Traces Of Nothingness will be released as a special edition double vinyl with extra material, so that is something to look out for.
