Z’ev - Rhythmajik
in experimental, Reviews
Z’EV has been around since the early days of industrial and has worked with a plethora of artists and labels over the years- including Psychic TV, Genesis P-Orrigdge, The Hafler Trio, John Zorn, and Sonic Youth- and has worked with labels such as Touch, Staaplaat, Die Stadt, Soleilmoon, Cold Spring, Dossier, Subterranean and Tzadik.
‘Rhythmajik’ features 32 tracks, and none is longer than three minutes, in fact most are well under two minutes in length. At first, this CD did not seem to make any sense to me; that is until I read the liner notes, which explain its purpose.
‘Rhythmajik’ is the audio material that accompanies the book “Rhythmagic” (published by Temple Press), a magic book that serves as a guide to the magical uses of sound based on the mystical numerological tradition of the Qabalha. Now this makes things very interesting! And now these 32 mesmerizing, percussive, and darkish ambient tracks make perfect sense! Now I must find myself a copy of this “Rhythmagic” book as soon as possible- that is in order to release the full potential of this sound magic!
