Ende Shneafliet - Twistin’ on the Tombstones
in electro, Reviews
After the compilation Trumpett Sounds and an EP by The Actor, the Enfant Terrible label moves again on Trumpett territory. “Twistin’ on the Tombstones” is a double LP with more than 20 tracks by Ende Shneafliet, a legendary name from the Dutch minimal electronic underground.
In the period 1981 - 1983 Ende Shneafliet released various tapes on the Trumpett label. This new vinyl release compiles the best tracks from that period, which should make more people aware of this Dutch collective. It’s quite hard to describe the style of Ende Shneafliet, because of its variation and its own twist. Their sound is minimal and quite cold, with influences from wave, synthpop and avant garde electronica. Many tracks have a catchy groove, but it’s certainly no typical dance music.
The vocals on a pice like ‘Hangman’ remind of Joy Division or Siglo XX, while the spacious guitar on ‘Rendez-vous Met Betsy’ strongly remind me of Felt or 4AD acts. The uptempo synth piece ‘Corps Diplomatique’ could be played in a contemporary elektro set, while others tracks follow more weird experimental paths.
The musical scope on “Twistin’ on the Tombstones” is pretty varied and the musical quality is of a high level. This is certainly a release that should not fail in anyone’s minimal electro-wave collection, so hurry up, because this nice double LP is limited to 500 copies.
