Parca Pace - Raumspannung
in classical, Reviews
Parce Pace is one of the manifestations of the the Crescens Collective, and in particular it’s a solo creation of Jan Carleklev. Just as I’m used to from related projects like Sanctum and Mago, Raumspannung is a very well produced album. It’s the second release by Parca Pace, after a relatively low-key self-titled cd in 1999, which contained one long varied soundscape. Raumspannung is quite different with its dramatic neo-classical sound.
Sweeping string melodies are often dominating the composotions. They are alternated with found sounds and sample collages, for instance on ‘Urban consequences’. Now and then industrial elements closer to Sanctum pop up. Some of the more minimal classical pieces remind me of the work of Max Richter. The symphonic final piece ‘Enter now’ goes in the direction of The Protagonist.
I find Raumspannung a very enjoyable cd to bring a lot of atmosphere in my room. The overall mood gives me a slight feeling of sadness and isolation, which fits in well with the urban imagery and texts in the booklet like ‘metropolitan life becomes more and more lonely’.
