Emulsion – Death of the author EP

Emulsion, an act from Chicago, offers us a remarkable EP here. ‘Death of the author” starts with a slow, brooding cover of one the Cure’s most depressive classics ‘Pornography’. I must say that Emulsion has made an interesting version, a slow ambient soundscape with lots of background voices and deep whispered spoken vocals. Just as you’re sitting back, completely releaxed, you are suddenly attacked by violent beats on the next track ‘Is lust’. But it is a fine piece of powernoise though, which has the potential to become an industrial dancefloor favourite because of its very powerful beat.

‘Undone’ is then again a nice moving piece of cinematic ambiance, reminding me of Coil (Hellraiser). The EP further contains a dark and slow ambient track (“Sonido Negro) and slowly evolving experimental drone piece (‘Every machine makes a mistake’). Perhaps a bit strange to make an EP with one violent industrial tracks and four contemplative atmospheric structures. But the material is of a high quality, Emulsion is definitely talented!
