Giscard le Survivant – Guerre de Jugurtha contre la Bande a Basile

Giscard le Survivant is an experimental French electronic project, which I first encountered on the compilation “Like Music to their Ears vol. 1”. Apparently this is already the 6th demo of this project, that has also produced two albums. The music is very strange, and so are the long, incomprehendible songtitles. probably references to the reign of French president Valéry Giscard d’Estaing in the late 70’s.

Weird sound collages, estranging noises and bleeps. ‘Un mousse pour John Wayne’ has an interesting rhythmic framework, with strange glitches and effects, bleeps and sampled voices. Occasionally a track seems to trod familiar paths, like the rhythmic industrial ‘Sacré robot mou, tu nous fais le jerk’, but it usually won’t take long before you’re taken to less common territories.

Do you want something different? Do you like lo-fi collage madness? Try Giscard le Survivant and you won’t be bored by conventions. You need a strong stomach though, because his music is not so easy to digest.
