This is a work (Wanderer above the mist) from the early nineteenth century Romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich (1774-1840), who is specialized in melancholic landscapes, with solitary figures, ruins, graveyards and other forms of decay. In Schloss Charlottenburg in Berlin you can admire some of his work in the “Galerie der Romantik”.
The painting Klosterfriedhof im Schnee (1817/1819), which you can see below, has been destroyed in a fire, unfortunately.
