Dies Natalis

Dies Natalis

Biography:
Dies Natalis rose on the wave on new German neo-folk groups, that also brought us Forseti and Orplid. Just like them, Dies Natalis first released a 10″ on the wonderful Eis & Licht label. This record made a lot of impression, especially the heroic ‘Rain” and the long romantic track ‘We Stand’. The band gained a lot of new fans, when they played around the campfire at the disastrous Wave Gotik Treffen in Leipzig in 2000. Live the band is at its best, energetic and very dedicated toward the audience.

In 2000 the band released its first album, “Vom gedanken und der Errinnerung”, with new favourites as ‘Thunderdoor’, ‘Der Stein weit im Korn’ and ‘The drummer walks in Storm’. This record contains some songs dominated by electronics and a few tracks with darkwave influences, but most of the times the four members of Dies Natalis play folky songs with acoustic guitars and drums. Unfortunately the band came into trouble as a few concerts were forbidden by authorities after left-wing protests. They accused Dies Natalis of extreme rightwing sympathies, which the band has firmly denied. Nevertheless the band announced to quit, but they seem to have found new strength and will continue their career. Around Dies Natalis two side-projects have arisen: Sonnwin (which has released an interesting album centered around the Edda mythology, called “Fehu”) and AvantGarde Rosenauge. Dies Natalis participated on the Sol Invictus tribute “Sol Lucet Omnibus” released by Cynfeirdd and the LP “Neue Welten” (Ragnarok).
