Reviews: experimental

(experimental / avantgarde / electro-acoustic)

Barrett, Natasha – Isostasie

[this review also deals with Stephan Dunkelman – Rhizomes] The Empreintes Digitales label has over the years released lots of material by composers of so called ‘musique concrete’ and ‘electroacoustic’ music…

Pure – Noonbugs

Having heard some of Pure’s previous solo works and the split 12″ with Christoph Fringeli (who runs Praxis) I expected this release to be one big noiseblast. That is why this cd came as a total surprise. The tracks seem to be built around loops of classical music, concrete sounds and skipping cd players…

Random Touch – Hammering on Moonlight

Sometimes I come across strange music in my P.O. Box. A good example is this cd by Random Touch. A completely unknown name to me, but this seems to be their third cd, besides two soundtracks. Dead Raven Choir – Sky of Rose and Wolves

One of three cdr’s which i received from this project. Last year I already reviewed the album “In all Poems there are Wolves”, which demonstrated an unusual dark and folky sound, rather grave and experimental. Dead Raven Choir is a project around a Polish guy named Smolken. On this release he is assisted by three other musicians…

Dead Raven Choir – But inside they are ravening wolves

Another cdr full of ‘intense and barbaric psych-folk’ from Dead Raven Choir. And as usual an albumtitle with wolves in it. Eleven tracks can be found on this 35-minute release, with texts from illustrious poets like Yeats and Milne. This cdr will soon also be released in Poland by Cat Sun Release…

Dead Raven Choir – In all Poems there are Wolves

This self-produced cd, that reached me recently from the USA, has a not so everyday title. The same could be said of the music, which I can’t easily compare to other bands. The music can be described as avantgarde folk, but not really of the World Serpent type. The man behind this project is called the digger Smolken, who takes care of all instruments and voices…
