Major Conflict – Sounds like 1983

Mad at the world records is a Hungry Eye related label for punk, trash and hardcore music. Major Conflict was a New York City based hardcore band in the early 80’s.

Spiritual Front – Nihilist EP

Spiritual Front is the band around the flamboyant singer Simone Salvatori, whose music is sometimes described as ‘suicide pop’. Before the last album “Satyriasis”, Spiritual Front has released some limited vinyl singles, like this 5-track 10″.

VA – Subterranean Ways of Thinking

This compilation on Avatar Records brings together some of the finest names in the ambient/drone scene. Desiderii Marginis, Troum, Inade, Schloss Tegal… I could think of a worse line-up for this type of music.

Haus Arafna – Blut: Trilogie des Blutes + Nachblutung

The first album of Haus Arafna has been finally re-released. Blut: Trilogie des Blutes was first released in 1995. This re-issue features three bonus tracks from the same period.

Pseudo Code – Licht

Pseudo Code was a Belgian band that was active in the early 80’s. The band had a link with Bene Gesserit and can be described as an experimental/minimal pop band with a sound dominated by electronics.

Jasmin – 02

The second EP of Jasmin has many similarities with the first one. It has the same minimal cover, only in another colour, and has just a number as title, simply ’02’. Again a videoclip has been included. And again the sound can be described as instrumental post-rock.

Severin Bestombes vom Horse Gore Club – Auszug und Abgesang

If you think you have heard strange music then listen to this record and think again. Severin Bestombes is a side project by one Novy Svet member and the record consists of two long tracks.

C/A/T – The Rogue Pair

I was listening to this C/A/T release travelling after work. It’s just the suited type of music when you need to let off some steam, with its energetic adrenaline-filled EBM-industrial-techno mixture.

Allerseelen – Edelweiss

The friendly priced Edelweiss is probably intended as an introduction to those who do not know the work of Allerseelen well. It gathers 16 ‘industrial folklore’ tracks recorded in the past five years. But also faithful Allerseelen fans might be tempted to obtain this cd.

Detritus – Origin

When I first encountered cdr’s of Detritus I found the music directly exciting. Now Detritus has released his second album on Ad Noiseam. The musical recipe has not changed that much, only the musical spectrum has become wider and the production richer.

Reutoff, Pawel Grabowski, Tarkatak, S.Q.E.

It should be no secret by now that Drone Records is specialized in drone / dark ambient music, produced on limited 7″ records with special packagings. This review describes 4 ‘Drones’.

Umwelt, Blotnik Brothers, Bytecon

Satamile is the self-proclaimed ‘longest running electro music label in NYC, devoted to pushing electro into the future’. On their roster are better known acts like Lowfish, Decal and Umwelt, but also various new names. This review describes 3 Satamile records.

Judah – Cool crap

Italian acts often have that extra coolness factor, perhaps it’s their sense of style or their feeling for seduction. The completely new act Judah convinces me with this short album, which borrows heavily from the electronic past but sounds entertaining nevertheless.

Napalmed – Strident abrasive auricular erosion

You asked for something obscure? Well, here you have a true underground release. Napalmed is a noise/industrial project from the Czech Republic for more than 10 years. They offer loads of samples and distortion.

Tor Lundvall – Empty City

The new Tor Lundvall album “Empty City“ once again shows that he understands how to work with illusions. Again he is able to create this unique mood, slowly fading thru the colours of his pictures and again it is very beautiful.

Remanence – a Strange Constellation of Events

Remanence from the USA left a good impression with their previous releases. After a few years of silence, they returned in 2005 with the album “a Strange Constellation of events”. As before, Remanence brings us lovely organic soundscapes and a beautiful packaging.

Joolie Wood – Tales of Colour and White

The name of Joolie Wood will perhaps mostly ring a bell to people who followed David Tibet’s Current 93 a bit. Wood, also contributed her services to various other artists. Now she is working on a solo career, of which this EP is the first tangible result.

Herbst9 – : Enenylyn :

I felt the need to obtain more material of this dark ambient duo from Leipzig. Therefore I was quite happy to find this single with two tracks from Herbst9. As always with Drone Records, this is a limited 7″ assembled with a lot of care.

Reutoff vs. Antlers Mulm – Kreuzung Eins

Here we have an interesting collaboration: Reutoff from Russia and Antlers Mulm from Germany. On this streamlined looking LP release both acts contribute an exclusive track, as well as remix two tracks of each other.

Magnetize – Anti-Chord EP

Both the artist Magnetize from Ireland and the label Templedog from the UK were completely obscure to me untill this release. Anti-Chord is a 12″ EP with four instrumental tracks that fuse a wide range of electronic styles.
