Fossils

On an impulse I decided to see Dinosaur Jr., who were playing in town. Though I always loved contemporaries like Sonic Youth and the Pixies more, they’re of course a legendary name.

Now was a good time too see them: they played in their original line-up (J Mascis, Lou Barlow, Murph) and a setlist with mostly songs of their recently reissued first three albums (Dinosaur, You’re Living All Over Me and Bug). The veterans still managed to produce a load of loud guitar noise, which made me grab my earplugs quickly.

It was a solid concert, with Dinosaur Jr. classics like The Wagon and In a Jar. Nevertheless the concert only really came to life in the encores, with their infamous cover of The Cure’s Just Like Heaven and the indie hit Freak Scene, which lead to old-fashioned pogo action.
