Gabba gabba hey!

I’m a curious person by nature. And I have a fetish for junk. So when I’m cycling to my work and I see a pile of old stuff on the pavement I often stop by to take a closer look. Sometimes with unexpected results.

Like a couple of old tapes I found yesterday. A true piece of music history. Around ’91 a new musical style emerged out of new beat, acid and house: hardcore techno, better known as gabber/gabba. The epicentre was probably club Parkzicht in Rotterdam. Here obscure tapes were exchanged with this new and loud sound. Not a musical style I have ranged among my favourites, but entertaining to hear back again. Oldschool hardcore seems to be gaining popularity again today by the way. A shame I did not have much time to look what else was hidden in the junk (being late again as usual), their might have been more treasures…
