unfortunately i was too late in hamburg to visit an exhibition about mixtapes in the museum f?munikation, which was based on academic research. but there is also a special website on which you can see a nice selection of the exhibition: kassettengeschichten – von menschen und ihren mixtapes. the importance and the difficulties of making a good mixtape were of course already demonstrated clearly in nick hornby‘s (filmed) book high fidelity, which all music lovers should read. also in the recent movie morvern callar plays a mixtape an important role. in the past i made many mixtapes, and also gave them away to special friends. but i must confess that i seldom play tapes anymore. but can we expect a revival?
