Radio history

did you know…

that the world’s first radioshow was probably broadcasted in the netherlands on november 6, 1919?
on the menu were evergreens like ‘ave maria’, ‘carmen’, ‘le barbier de seville’ and some dutch hits of that time, with titles as ‘een meisje om nooit te vergeten’ en ‘turf in je ransel’ . the show was conducted by a pioneer called ir. h.h. schotanus a scheringa idzerda.
for later shows he got support from the london newspaper daily mail, which financed the broadcasting of some concerts. later this would lead to the foundation of the bbc…
mr. idzerda broadcasted untill 1924, when he went bankrupt, because his radio experiments cost him a lot of money. in 1944 he was executed by the occupying germans, who (falsely) accused him of espionage.
