Refuge

Plompetoren van Koudekerke I’ve been away for a few days to fresh up my mind, staying in the middle of nowhere. No music anywhere around me, the silence only being shattered by the sounds of wind and countless birds.
The building on the photo is called the Plompe Toren (‘plump tower’). It’s the only remnant of a Dutch village called Koudekerke that was entirely swallowed by the sea in the 16th century. According to legend this was the result of the curse of a furious merman, after fishermen took away his beloved mermaid…
