“I have been in detention for the last two days, trying to get into the US from Canada. I have been rejected on the basis of apparently being a spreader / carrier of `obscene and communist political extremist` material”.

He was denied because he lacked a work visa, and is being a drama queen about it. This is pretty standard practice. It does suck, because it makes bringing smaller foreign bands to the US quite expensive. But, it is easy to get around, if you aren’t obvious about it, like bringing merchandice you intend to sell with you.
