Arcana – The Last Embrace

A dark medieval atmosphere, a little orchestral bombast, grave male and heavenly female voices, church bells… on the Scandinavian Cold Meat label of course. Arcana became known through a song on the “And even wolves hid their teeth”-sampler, and have released two albums since then, “Dark age of reason” and “Cantar de Procella”, both very beautiful. After that a long silence came, with only a few songs on compilation albums, like “The Absolute Supper”.

Recently Arcana came back with a single called ‘Isabel’ and now the new album is finally out, “The Last Embrace”, which has the typical Arcana sound. No surprises, just beautiful as always. You could reproach them for not changing their sound, but on the other hand, why change a winning formula? Well, there is one important change I must say, and that is the expanded use of ‘real’ instruments like cello, which gives the band some more oppurtunities, I hope this development will be a structural one.
