Ashram – Ashram

This debut album of Ashram is already out for some time, but is so beautiful that it deserves a little extra attention. Ashram is an Italian formation, consisting of three members: Luigi Rubino (piano), Sergio Panarella (vocals) and Alfredo Notarloberti (violin). The latter gifted violinist is of course also known for his work with Argine. So the means of Ashram are quite minimal, just classical piano and violin, with a few additional cello and bass sounds on some tracks. A characteristic aspect is the voice of Sergio, which is rather high and quite special. Often he sounds rather melancholic or plaintive, sometimes a little more playful.

Ashram creates a very beautiful sound, which is rather intimate and captivating. Lovely music for a rainy day. Absolute highlight for me is the moving song ‘Forever at your mercy’. Also nice is the hymn-like ‘Nevermore sorrow’, which reminds me somewhat of Arcana, especially by the vocals. This enchanting album is a must if you can appreciate romantic, neo-classical music and bands like Anima in Fiamme or Collection d’Arnell Andrea.
