Joseph Budenholzer again proves his craftmanship with this new Backworld single. On this vinyl picture disc, in a series released by World Serpent, we find a nice illustration with a graveyard sculpture on Side A, the other side is filled with psychedelic blue flowers. The song ‘A vagrant thought’ is rather solemn, mainly acoustic guitars, flutes and spoken lyrics (‘It is all a dream / Nothing exists but you / and you are a thought / a vagrant thought’). On the B-side ‘The tide’, perhaps the best song of their new “Of silver sleep” album and one of my favourite Backworld tracks. Impressive strings and stirring vocals give you the shivers! ‘And the tide rolls in / Up to our necks / Over our heads / What will be next’.
