Ella Blame – Ineffable Desire

Ella Blame is an American duo who are hard to categorize. Singer Ella Blame and multi-instrumentalist Michael D. Temple combine indie pop, triphop, dance, ethereal/ambient and even jazz on this rather nice album. In their own words: “Ella Blame sound like a 21st-century version of Pink Floyd fronted by a 21st-century mixture of Tori Amos, Björk and Barbra Streisand”. The songs are moody and accessible, but not real earworms, I miss melodies that really stand out. Nevertheless they contain enough surprises to keep you interested, with a good combination of acoustic and electronic elements. Ella is a remarkable singer, whose special voice has quite some different sides to it. An original album which certainly deserves wider attention.
