After eight records you might expect that Estampie would run out of material, as the medieval repertoire is limited. But that is not the case, as the group searches in all regions for music from ages ago.
Estampie is for years the best act in medieval music with recognition in the field of classic music, world music and the alternative (wave/gothic)scene. Signum is more music from the 12th to the 15th century. Again the group displays its musical capacities in beautiful melodies, heavenly singing and clever arrangements.
However, this album does not really add something to the repertoire of the band. Fans of Estampie and medieval music will like this record for sure anyway. It is a nice acquisition to their collection.
Nice to mention is that Michael Popp, one of the prominent group members, is the co-founder of a new record label called Distant Mirror Records. This label will be focusing on modern crossovers between traditional music and pop music (in the broadest sense of the word). Something to look at for…
