Ghislain Poirier – Conflicts

Wow, how some artists are able to adopt different styles without lossing their identity is quite amazing at times. I surely was surprised when I picked up this new cd by Ghislain Poirier on Intr_version the other day.

Starting out with a gorgeous mix of cut up brass and violins supported by dark and freaky hip hop beats Poirier sets the tone for the rest of the album. Sadly my French is not good enough to know what the lyrics are about, but the music and titles of the tracks most certainly suggest a not too happy content.

Poirier delivers hip hop tracks, with far away floating sounds, skipping beats, and deep hip hop. But don’t expect a traditional hip hop album. Poirier twists and turns everything you know as hip hop and delivers his own version of it. An orginal version for sure.

This album by Ghislain Poirier is maybe his best release up till now, and only makes you wonder what he will come up with next time. Something to look forward too.
