This 2 CD set is a rerelease of two old albums released on the Ecstatic Peace label and Fisheye Recordings. Since both vinyls are sold out for quite some time already this CD set comes as a welcome re-release to fans of JOMF.
The music is what you would expect from JOMF if you knew them before, chaotic post rock tracks. The sue of saxophone and tape loops and many more strange intrsuments alongside the more traditional postrock instruments (guitar, drums, violins etc) gives the music an edge for sure. At times it feels like John Coltrane walks in on a improvisation of JOMF and plays along with them. The chaos in the music is something you need to etg used to, but it does add that thing you sometimes miss in post rock. Excitement, energy, tension. This music isn’t simple slow build up, climax, and building down, and on to the next track stuff. Nothing new either really, but it simply works.
JOMF is post rock with an edge, and that is something post rock simply needs after so many rather poor releases of bands just showing how well they have mastered certain tricks.
