It took me quite some time to write a review on this record. I really needed a lot of time to listen to the music on Destello de Estrellas en la Frenta to fully appreciate it. Don’t understand me wrong, from the first time I put on the disc I liked what I heard but even though the sounds are relaxing and tranquil it is not an easy album. Only bit by bit the real beauty and mystery of this record will reveal itself to you. So, when you buy his record, take your time to get into it.
Nový Svet and Ô Paradis treat the listeners with a sound you might expect when you know the work of both these artists. Destello de Estrellas en la Frenta is filled with warm, melancholy and mysterious Mediterranean folk music. Of course the music is served in a post-industrial way. The rhythms that form the basis are minimal and repetitive. On top of these looped bases wonderful acoustic melodies and warm vocals are placed.
The musicians play with some different moods. ‘Que Dios Me Perdone’ for example is rather playful while Destello De Estrellas’ is more mysterious and ‘Dios Sin Ojos’ has a darker feeling to it.
Although this record is a true collaboration between the two artists in the sense that they played and produced the music together, you can hear the influence and distinctive aspects of Nový Svet and Ô Paradis. Especially the influence of Ô Paradis seems evident as Destello de Estrellas en la Frenta has a lot in common with his first album when it comes to moods and song structures. But, Nový Svet seems to have brought in some more typical post-industrial influences. Probably it is their effort that the record is somewhat darker then the solo work of Ô Paradis.
Very nice is that there is a limited edition of this cd available. The first 333 copies come with a free 3” bonus cd with four more tracks. Destello de Estrellas en la Frenta is a fruitful collaboration between two very interesting post-industrial acts.
