Ostara – Whispers to the Soul

This time a release from Ostara on the German label Eis & Licht, a 10″ with no less than 6 songs. First ‘The Trees March North’, which I already knew from their mp3 page, a good catchy song that will stick in your head. Then two songs that I already knew from a previous Ostara single, Overworld and never Wepp, both folky popsongs with good melodies. Side B starts unusual, with a track consisting of weird sounds and sampled voices. Not a song to remember an sich, but a nice variation in their oeuvre. The record is closed with two songs recorded at a concert in London. First the excellent ‘The Reckoning’ from their Secret Homeland album, in a nice plain version with drums and acoustic guitar. Finally the bitter ‘The marble cliffs of Dover’, with some fierce shouting…
