To review a soundtrack is quite difficult, especially when you have not seen the movie, as a soundtrack should add something to the images on the screen. This soundtrack consists of ‘real’ film music (and not of a compilation of songs by different bands like is often the case). Which makes it even a harder job to do a review.
Erbsen auf halb 6 is a German movie which will most likely not be available in many places besides Germany. The music is orchestra music with a light Eastern European folk feeling. Due to the dreamy atmosphere of the pieces this record makes me think of the music by the Tindersticks from time to time.
The only true song is ‘Blind’ by German synthpop duo Wolfsheim. ‘Blind’ is a track that appeared on their former album Spectators, but has been made into a new (less electronic orientated) version for this soundtrack and also as a single (which is yet another version).
Just as the soundtrack as a whole ’Blind’ is the perfect music for a rainy afternoon while staring out the window and daydreaming. I think I should try to get my hands on this movie one way or another…the music has made me curious.
