V/A – Funkwelten

With a handful of releases Funkwelten built up a good reputation as an interesting label for electronic music. The music they release is usually situated between ambient and IDM. Sometimes relaxing, sometimes challenging. Especially the albums by For a Space, Flint Glass and Polyspace were very enjoyable for me. These acts are also present on this first label compilation. They are accompanied by other Funkwelten acts (Enfusion, Echorausch), new label signings (Klangfarbe, Satsuma) and illustrous guests (Polygon, Displacer).

On this affordable cd the listener is treated to over 75 minutes of good quality electronic music. My favourite tracks are ‘Teotihuacan’ by Flint Glass and ‘Bin’by Polygon, both neatly constructed pieces with a lot of atmosphere. Of the newcomers I especially appreciate Klangfarbe, with a cold electronic sound reminding of Polygon and Mortal Constraint. The spacy chill out creations of Satsuma appeal a bit less to me.
