Zwangslage – Zwangslage

A self-released cdr by Zwangslage, but taken under the guard of The Rectrix. They perform 5 tracks in only 11 minutes. Already at the first tones I had to run to my cd-player to put the volume down. Jesus, what an extreme piece of black metal noise. That guy really is shouting at the top of his lungs. Fast and furious drumming, ultra-low guitars, distorted electronics and feedback everywhere complete the sonic picture. At times the ‘music’ makes me think of a more industrial version of Napalm Death, while the slower passages remind of psychedelic hardrock a la Black Sabbath. The third track really is fast and chaotic, John Zorn is just around the corner.

Well, to be honest I was a little relieved that this orgy of sound was over after 11 minutes. But Zwangslage can be praised for their uncompromising attitude, just as it needs to be in a mixture of black metal, japanese noise, grindcore punk and harsh avantgarde.
