Biography:
Impressive music from Sweden on the Cold Meat label. Arcana was founded in 1993 by Peter Petterson as a project to create medieval inspired music. Soon he realized that he needed a female singer, then Ida joined the project. A dark medieval atmosphere, a bit bombastic, grave male and heavenly female voices, church bells became the trademarks of Arcana. They became first known through a song on the “And even wolves hid their teeth”-sampler. later Arcana received critical acclaim for the albums “Dark age of reason” and “Cantar de Procella”, both very atmospheric and beautiful.
After that a silent period came, with only a few songs on compilation albums, like “The Absolute Supper”. But then new Arcana returned with the single, ‘Isabel’ and the album, The Last Embrace. The general reaction to that work was that Arcana had delivered a solid album, but that it did not show a lot of progression. After this album Peter Pettersson was busy with his solo project Sophia, with has a more martial, industrial sound than Arcana. In the spring of 2002 Arcana released a beautiful new 2-track single called ‘Body of Sin’, that showed some changes in sound, with some folky influences. Arcana also did live concerts in Italy and Leipzig. Later in 2002 the band announced that they will take a rest from live performances for a while, due to the birth of PeterĀ“s daughter.
