Celine

Quite a different type of movie than Brisseau’s ‘Choses secretes’, but the camerawork is again quite captivating. The story tells about a female village doctor, who finds a very confused girl on the street one morning. She takes the girl with her to home, where she can’t leave her alone for a second, because she shows suicidal behaviour. This is caused by a painfully traumatic experience. Her mother asks the doctor to attend to her daughter for a considerable reward, to which the doctor agrees. An intense friendship develops between the two women and the confused Celine is gradaually feeling better, partly because of the spiritual exercises of the doctor. But a peculiar situation emerges when it becomes clear that Celine possesses special healing powers…
A beautiful spiritual film, which never gets too new age-like, because of the excellent playing of the two actrices.
