Hans Holbein d.J., Die Edelfrau.
One of the many great engravings Holbein (1497-1543) made for his series dedicated to the Totentanz/Danse Macabre theme. This was a common subject in the Middle Ages, probably caused by the Black Plague.
I saw an impressive exhibition of these Holbein drawings in the Kunstmuseum in Basel (Switzerland) in 1997. You can view some more of the work of this great series at this site.
